In an effort to attract more users, Second Life announced it will lower land costs, reduce the minimum LindeX purchase fee and add more value to its paid membership plans. 

Mainland rate cuts will range from $10-$30 USD per month (depending on the type of land). The minimum LindeX fee for purchasing Lindens will drop from $1.49 USD to $0.49 USD. Membership plans will include new incentives, but actually include some price increases of up to $1.74 USD. The reduced rates on land fees and LindeX fees will take effect on June 15, 2026 whereas the adjustments to membership pricing will start on July 8, 2026, the blog said.

“Second Life continues to evolve,” the blog said, “and we remain deeply committed to investing in the platform, supporting creators and communities, and making virtual world participation more accessible to more people around the globe.”

Lower Land Costs

Starting June 15th, the cost of a full 30K region will drop from $239 USD per month to $209 a month, which represents a 12.5% decrease. The price of a standard full region will come down to $199/month from its current cost of $209 per month. An EDU 30K region will fetch $105 per month compared to its current fee of $129/month.

“Everything in Second Life begins with land,” the blog said. “Communities, homes, businesses, roleplay regions, shopping destinations, art spaces, educational experiences, live music venues, and social hubs all depend on virtual land ownership.”

Over the past decade, SL has sought to lower land costs, it noted in the announcement.

Reduced LindeX Transaction Fee

“In today’s economy, many people are looking for affordable ways to relax, socialize, create, and explore online – without committing large amounts of money upfront,” the blog said. “That’s especially true for Residents who are just beginning to engage with the Second Life creator economy.”

By lowering the LindeX transaction fee from $1.49 to $0.49, SL hopes to lower the barrier of entry for new residents and spur spending from longtime residents.

Membership Incentives

As seen over the past few months, SL continues to encourage residents to purchase memberships. On July 8th, the membership plans will offer new incentives, which include:

• Expanded access to Linden Homes
• Premium customer support benefits
• More subscriber-exclusive virtual gifts than ever before (at least 12+ virtual gifts each month from The Collab Circle and additional monthly gifts from Essential Inventory and Second Life Studios)
• New partnerships offering early access to some of Second Life’s hottest shopping events and experiences.

Three membership tiers will absorb price increases according to the information provided in the blog. 

• Monthly premium plans will jump from $11.99 to $12.99 if paid monthly. Annual premium plans will increase from a monthly cost of $8.25 to $9.99.
• The price of a Premium Plus membership will increase from $20.75 to $23.99 when broken down on a month to month basis. 

As noted in the announcement, quarterly plans are no longer available. Existing subscribers with quarterly plans will be charged the new rates starting on July 8th.
