Editor’s Note: From the (Re-Located) Desk of Bill Kaye
In this issue, I’m going to break form from the history lecture I normally attempt in my columns. I’d instead like to reflect on the beauty of developing a blank canvas of virtual real estate from scratch, something many SL residents often dream of doing.
Days before publication, SL Business Review and its publisher, inKLine Media moved ahead with plans to open a full region with our partners–iCheng Digital Artistry and Vino Bar. Under the name CreatiV Commons, we opened the sim to the public only last weekend. Since I wrote the first draft of this column, I’ve literally watched it develop with a bird’s-eye view (amongst countless other cam angles).
Of course, the hard hat in my photo shows that we are still very much under construction. But we’d like you to take a tour. With a cinema, theater, the classy Vino Lounge, a cozy coffee shop (The Beanery) and plenty of spots such as ICDA Studio for culture, Senior Editor Sachiko Cheng describes it as “Chelsea, NYC meets SL.”
While I marvel at the build and design by our chief architect, Voice Restless, I’m more impressed by her ability to synthesize and match perfectly the very exact and distinct visions of each of us had for this country of virtual real estate. I’ve witnessed the challenge of juggling those conflicting visions tear apart friendships and partnerships. If anything, this experience has had the opposite effect.
On a final note: I generally like to focus my reporting and writing on what’s going on in the rest of SL. I try not to toot too many horns in my own magazine. With this column, I decided to inform, in all sincerity, to all of you that still share the dream. Come share it and make it happen at CreatiV Commons.
