As you may have heard, inKLine Media and its partners have opened their own sim CreatiV Commons. While it is a sim to conduct business and host events, it also, at its heart and essence, is a sim about community, bonding and friendship. I had the chance the other day while there to reconnect with old friends and bond with new ones. It was a very uplifting experience in several ways. It made me appreciate the fact that what we were sending out the vibes of community gathering. Anyone who came into that room could have felt the positivity pulsing through the atmosphere.

It made me appreciate that even though I’d lapsed a bit in communication with friends in both RL and SL, the people who always considered me a dear friend – as I did them – were still there when I “picked up the phone.” It gave me a chance to relive so many of the good memories that had helped shape my early experience with SL.  It made me remember and appreciate the friends that I lost in both SL. And the friends I lost in RL.

Two dear friends of mine in RL were killed in an accident in which I was also injured in January of 2003. I know for a fact that if they were still around, they would have loved a place like SL, and would have loved to be a part of the community to help make it great for everyone. Finally, It made me appreciate that even though some still consider SL nothing more than a cesspool of sex and adultery, that this is only a small part of what goes on in SL. SL is still very much a thriving place for people who want to make friends, live out fantasies in different role-play environments, experience different cultures and live out their dreams. For some, this may also be the only way that they can make friends and connect to another human. That’s what SL is really about. Finding a place where you can fit in and get what you need and may be missing from somewhere else.
