A Hover-board and Free Lindens: What Can Go Wrong?
Linden Lab this weekend ran a special promotion on Amazon, as most SL media reported, which was promptly pulled off the shelf.
As part of the free Starter Vehicle Pack valued at $9.95, Linden Lab offered for free a hover-board and 1000 Lindens. In reality this really equates to $4.05 USD for the 1000L and a freebie search on Marketplace. Now Tateru Nino reports why LL had to yank the promo from Amazon so abruptly.
“This offer was terminated early due to repeated attempts to circumvent the one-per-customer limit,” Linden Lab spokesman told Tateru Nino of Dwell on It.
Many saw this as an obvious blunder on the part of Linden Lab. Nino further commented on the predictability of the prospect of people manipulating a system “for a free pack that contained currency that could be converted and withdrawn in USD.”
Inara Pey of ModemWorld.com crowned LL with the first ever “SL Palme d’Face Award.”
It seems now that the same offer has been restored on Amazon.com at its original $9.95 valuation, but this is unconfirmed. (An e-mail has been sent to LL’s press department.)
