Capital Exchange Marks Second Birthday
Skip Oceanlane, CEO of the Capital Exchange, celebrated the second anniversary the stock market simulation game in SL, which lifted finance in SL from the ashes. In his statement, which was released on slcapex.com, Oceanlane acknowledged the work of his volunteer Capital Exchange Regulation Commission (CERC).
In the nearly five years since Linden Lab banned banking, the Capital Exchange, known informally as CapEx, has played a pivotal role in restoring what, if anything existed of the finance sector.
Oceanlane wrote:
| On January 15, 2011, I purchased the slcapex.com website and software, and many people thought I was crazy. They said that the Second Life stock exchanges were dead and gone forever. Well, I was out to prove them all wrong. I saw an opportunity to help rights many of the wrongs of the past, and to create a regulatory environment that would provide a safe, secure, reliable and trustworthy trading platform for thousand of people to use. That mission has been accomplished, and now I hope to make things even better in the future for all of you in SL finance. (Read the whole release: SL Capex.com) |
Looking back on the two years since he took over the exchange, Oceanlane simply let some statistics demonstrate the amount of business that takes place at the Exchange.
In two years:
- From 10 listed companies, to 55 companies and funds currently
- L$250,000,000 in trading volume
- Active traders (those who have traded in the last 12 months) have spiked from 200 to over 5,000
In looking back on the accomplishments, Oceanlane noted one negative. The CapEx needs and lacks a full-time software engineer. Oceanlane wrote: “it’s my goal to have this area operational for the 1st Quarter Financials for 2013.”
As for the future, Oceanlane plans to “just keet doing what we have been doing since 2011 – providing a safe, secure and reliable trading platform that is free of insider trading found on all other exchanges within Second Life.”
