In just hours, the four sims devoted to Second Life’s One Billion Rising event, a 24-hour dance and festival to raise awareness about violence against women, will open to the public.

One Billions Rising (OBR) kicks off at 12:00 AM SLT with a 24-hour line-up of DJs and live performers pumping music into the four sims–named OBR Dance, OBR Rise, OBR Walk and OBR Strike.  Installations from 18 SL artists adorn the bountiful parkland surrounding the stadium-sized stage.  The four sims can hold up to 200 people at a time.

The event’s coordinators told reporters in a press gathering yesterday that the planning and execution an event of this magnitude took about five to six weeks and a team of about 100 volunteers.  Despite the impressive level of coordination and publicity generated for the event, this actually marks the first OBR event to take place in-world.

While this marks a first for SL, One Billions Rising (OBR) recognizes the 15th anniversary of V-Day, a global campaign to raise awareness about violence against women.
