It’s My Birthday and I’ll Blog If I Want To
Today is the first birthday I spent in SL, which is totally fine with me. Let’s be clear. Today is my birthday in RL, not my rez day in SL, which unfortunately passed without my noticing. I suppose it’s not too remarkable since I’ve only been logged in for a year and six months.
Today I considered how technology has changed even the concept of a birthday, such as having two birthdays (see previous rez-day reference). Phones seem to vibrate non-stop on your birthday, right? Oh they don’t? Sorry…me neither.
Let’s just say I’m not one for throwing huge parties for myself in either scenario. When I attempt that, it usually ends in resentment and brutal introspection. At the same time, I never expect a huge shindig. I’d rather throw one for a friend on my birthday just to mess with people a bit.
Some people choose to coordinate a huge affair on their birthday. That’s fine with me because I usually get to attend and dance awkwardly before finding an empty stool at the bar. (I really don’t like to dance in RL, and I’ll admit, I don’t enjoy it in SL any more).
I’m just low key, low maintenance. I can live with spending holidays, birthdays and Saturdays in SL or writing or writing about SL I’m perfectly content with the quick notes and smiles, remembering that old friends exist and vice versa. And presents. I do love presents.
So send me one in the form of a comment telling us something SLBR should cover. In this way I can have a happy birthday!
