Center for Business Development Opens Doors in Second Life

RESIDENTS GATHER TO EMPOWER BUSINESS CONCERNS IN SL

By Ginette Pinazzo

Centre For Business Development_logoThe Center For Business Development is a newly formed professional organisation within Second Life, created by concerned and active residents to discuss innovative change, develop meaningful initiatives, and implement dynamic programs through positive forums that promote a growing business-friendly environment within the virtual world.

CBD started life as a series of inworld meetings with virtual business owners and community leaders, then evolved into a movement with far-reaching and inclusive goals.

A key founder of CBD, Heavenly Villa expresses hope for the new group. “I am excited to be part of this initiative, to work with other business people in SL who are passionate and invested in addressing issues that create barriers to business growth. I know I will learn a lot and I look forward to contributing what I can to this group, to working with LL and to helping to ensure SL survives and grows again.”

The organization is always open to new membership and strives for transparency and inclusiveness as some of its practices. Ginette Pinazzo, owner of the Zindra Expo group and long-time community leader states, “A growing economy and a healthy business climate are issues that should concern everyone, because these are issues directly CBD Office Snaphot_001related to the success and dynamism of a virtual world. I believe the CBD is a much-needed advance in the cause of resident involvement in matters that affect SL retention rates, new resident experiences, public relations and the relevance of SL in the virtual world marketplace. I hope everyone who is interested in the survival and growth of Second Life, considers engaging in the CBD.”

The group has begun drafting proposals that cover many aspects of the SL economy, and is currently seeking new talent and energy to join the cause. Another key CBD founder, Namssab1nad Piers, states, “Things are changing so fast in SL its almost hard to keep up with. Linden Lab has not helped the situation in the changes they have made (as in lack of) in communicating and interacting with the residents. For me, CBD is the beginning of a new day in SL where residents and especially business owners come together and work toward changing the relationship Linden Lab has pushed on its residents.”

To become involved in the Centre For Business Development, residents can pursue a number or routes, through the inworld office, CBD website, joining the SL group, or attending meetings. Positive participation is encouraged and the emphasis is on the creation of helpful proposals and new ideas that empower business and improve the entrepreneurial climate of SL.
