Second Life Wishlist
Around the New Year, I wrote a wish list for 2013, but I ran the article in the magazine where readers could not interact. It was an amateur move, I admit.
In a recent conversation with Heavenly Villa, the owner of L’aize Dayz and the organizer for this year’s Home and Garden Expo, prompted–scratch that–demanded that I post it here under the “Genie in a Bottle Scenario.”
You’re walking along the beach at The Docks. You find a brass lamp sticking out of the sand. You rub the lamp three times because that’s what you do when you find a lamp on a beach. A genie springs from the lamp, because that’s what happens when you find a brass lamp on the beach and rub it!
The genie offers you three wishes for Second Life. You respond…in the comments section below.

My wishlist is more for Linden Labs than Secondlife:
I’ve been in Secondlife for 5 years – as a home owner, business owner, group owner, shopper…. I’ve seen how much it has progressed in that time. While the progress has been great in terms of the builds in SL, it’s had its negative impact too – multiple computer upgrades, friends leaving, struggles to get a business established….
My wish overall is for a developing, thriving, growing SL. It’s been developing, but I dont think it’s been thriving. I would love to see this turned around as SL has so much to offer as place for creativity, friendship, community, business and learning.
Here’s my wishlist for Linden Labs
1. Listen to your customers – ask us what we want. Allow us to provide you with feedback…
Any good business will ask customers what they want or at least do a customer satisfaction survey etc. Good customer service is as important in SL as it is in the real world.
For example, did you ask if customers wanted pathfinding before you brought it in? How many residents in SL actually USE pathfinding?
2. Make land more affordable – how many residents don’t have land or close up their business in SL and give up land because it is too expensive? Surely making land more affordable could actually mean MORE people will buy it, will have homes, businesses, create inspiring sims and venues for entertainment….
3. Improve your resident retention – the number of people in SL must surely be a sign that things are NOT improving. The progress has been technical, but the cost has been residential….. Is SL being marketed properly, look at your demographics, look at what SL is used for, look at who has the money to buy Lindens, look at how you help your residents to find their way when they first come here, look at who is leaving and why….

I agree. There should definitely be more customer feedback opportunities. Or Linden led townhall meetings.
Thanks for the response Stone and T. I would like to see Town Hall meetings as well. I never got to experience the office hours when they existed.
SL does a lot of things correctly but there are a few things that I would wish for…
Lag … must…go. In no other game do I have the amount of lag that I have in SL.
There are so many 3rd party viewers because the normal SL viewer sucks. Its time for a better UI. Especially for those of us that aren’t keen on using a 3rd party viewer to play.
At this point there should be an official SL App for all mobile platforms. It obviously doesn’t have to play SL but it should be easy to carry on chats and check messages.
